HELLO MY FRIENDS:

I OWN 2 TECS AND LOVE THEM. WHY DID THE ATF/CLINTON CABAL STOP THE MANUFACTURE OF THESE GREAT GUNS? I'VE BEEN TOLD IT'S BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF THEM THAT FELL INTO CRIMINAL HANDS, OTHERES SAY IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE EASE WITH WHICH THEY COULD BE CONVERTED TO FULL AUTO. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REAL STORY? ARE THE MORE RECENT REPLACEMENTS AS GOOD A WEAPON? THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT.

From looking at the parts diagram the Tec 9 doesn't have a firing pin spring, just the striker spring. Am I correct?

Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to find a silencer attachment for a pre-ban tec 9?

The ban mostly banned guns with certain features, and the TEC 9 looked evil and they were hi cap, so they banned them. Other than limiting how many rounds we put into a mag, the features were mostly cosmetic. Lacking a bayonet lug, pistol grip, and a flash hider does not make one gun any more deadly than a traditional stocked rifle.

Plus most Tec9 pistols I have shot and seen were unreliable and crappier than a comparable Glock 17 with a Glock 18 mag in it.

they were put out of production due to pending lawsuits. The company shut down on their own before being forced....

45 pretty much sums it up. They looked evil. Lawmakers couldn't look past that and made a stupid decission (along with many others!). The fact that they don't feed properly makes them one of the top 10 firearms to face muzzle end first!

Sorry, but only 'cuda is correct.

Tort7: Feds/Clinton did not cause manufacture to stop. They were not more eaily converted to full auto than any other semiauto. The open bolt versions were the easiest and all (not just the Tec9) were legislated out in 1981.

45: the federal ban sunsetted... there was a "postban" version of the Tec9 made dujring the ban... it had nothing to do with the company going out of business.

CBXJEFF: There was no law banning Tec9s specifically nor does one exist now that would prohibit manufacture.

I had one of these in mid 80's the whole reciever broke in two. I sent it back to the company they replaced the whole firearm, I sold it two days after I got it back and never wanted another.

vic, I agree with you for the most part. Forgetting about the hi-cap mags, one thing I believe is under a fed. ban - the optional vertical forward grip for the pre-ban models. I believe it's illegal to own the grip if you own a Tec - even if it's not installed. I'de like to hear others comments about that.

there is no mag ban... locally there may be some but no federal restrictions.

The front grip makes it an AOW which is a firearm subject to the NFA of 1938 (national Firearms Act)... ATF did not enforce this, then they decided they should, then they were challenged on it, and now who knows... BUT it i still widely held that any forward grip added to what is under ATF guidelines as a pistol is a no-no.

vic, run that hi-cap ban thought through folks in CA, NJ, Chicago, etc! I didn't mean to infer there was a fed mag ban, just the forward pistol grip. Thanks for the additional info on that. I have read many posts on that and few agree. I feel safe with mine because that grip also fits my Mac-10 smg. What really bugs me is that I would love to design and create a vertical grip for my AK pistol. I think there would be a nitch market for that product. I need to do something - I'm sure not getting rich working at the company!
