I just bought an early bushmaster assault rifle with folding stock and black wooden forearm. Its in pretty rough condition but I liked it. Can anyone tell me where I can find any info on it? I have searched google and didn't find anything. Thanks for any help you can give.

They were made by a predecessor of the current Bushmaster Co, during the 1970's. Production was in the South. Mechanism was completely different from the current A R types, ( more like an AK ).
Although mine functioned fine it didn't like reloads, unless they were run through a small base sizeing die. Folks made fun of me when I picked it up in a trade, but it worked just fine, with ammo it liked. After I spray painted the light colored wooden stock and foreend black, it didn't look half bad either.
If its realy early it could be a Sp-1, But i won't know without pics.

These receivers were manufactured
for Bushmaster. While all of these
are for BM, there were more.
I don't have pictures of it to post. It has a stamped receiver with " Bushmaster assault rifle" stamped on the left side. The Galil style folding stock has a magnet clipped to it to hold it in the folded position. The bolt/carrier is really odd. The carrier looks like a square steel block with the spring in front like an ak. The bolt looks like a modified ar bolt with an ar firing pin. The barrel looks like an ar with an a1 flash hider and bayonet lug. The sights look like armalite ar 180. The rifle is in rough condition and I would like to find out if parts are available for it as well as when it was made and for what purpose. Thanks for the help, Tom.
Realy...Hmmmmmmm... this is a first one for me. I would love to see pics.... Are you sure you don't have a camera laying around somewhere?
Once i see it and get a idea of how its put together i'll have a better idea of were to find parts, If any are to be found.
Thanks for the help, Tom.
Thanks rufe-snow, for posting the picture. Thats what mine is except for the folding stock. Did yours shoot well?
Thanks for the help, Tom.
Mine functioned fine, with factory ammo. Didn't like reloads. Wasn't exceptionally accurate, probably because of the AK type mechanism with the gas piston attached to the bolt. At the time, lot of folks laughed at me, because they didn't have a good reputation for reliability. Because of this I wouldn't be putting big money in yours buying parts, even if your able to find them. Unless your able to pick up the parts for chump change, you'll probably never get your money out of it.
