You could tell them to put it up on GB with a buy it now price of what you agreed to pay. Start the auction at an agreed on time so you can be ready to buy it. Just a thought.

So what is the advantage of having him post it back on the auction page. How does that insure he is who he says he is????

First off, you should be able to see if he has feedback or not. Second, you get the protection of the auction side. Sure it still doesn't let you know if he is who he says he is, but it helps. If you are truly worried about it, then wait until the item is available locally to you and buy it that way.

If you are still that worried about this guy being who he said he is than perhaps you may not want to deal with him.

If someone is trying to fleece you, there's no sure way to prevent it. Just get as much information about the person first. Get his name, address, & phone number, then verify them on one of the online phone directories. Even if he wants you to send money to a PO box, also find out his physical address, & verify it.

If still not comfortable, call him at home. Or, ask for a photocopy of his drivers license.

If he doesn't want to deal with an auction on this item, he may be able to give you a username on one or more auction sites. Just use common sense, & back out if you see any red flags.

If you want a guarantee, well, used cars have those. But- couple of things to increase the likelihood of a good transaction- 1. Do not do business "off auction" here or elsewhere. Buying thru the site gets you some protection of the site. 2. Look for feedback. We all start somewhere at 0-0-0, but if a seller had 20 other folks that were happy, unlikely he will be trying to mess with #21. Seller will have registered with the website, have a CC on file, and if he does not follow site rules, will have been bounced. 3. If item is a firearm, send ONLY to address on a FFL you have been given. FFLs can be verified, either by the ATF ezCheck system, or by a phone call to ATF. 4. Send payment by a US Postal Money Order, and send thru US Mail. Gets you the US Postal Inspector Service as an ally when dealing with crooks. Avoid Paypal. If paying by CC, your credit card company will also usually help. 5. Avoid the obvious scams (I will send you a money order for more than amount, please cash, send me the additional money back) 6. Keep transactions within your own country unless you REALLY know what you are doing. 7. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. Folks may not agree with everything on this list, and as I said, life has few real guarantees, but I think they are good practices.

Have him go thru an FFL to send you the gun or if he is close enough meet him at the shop of the FFL and do the transaction ..
