For some reason I cannot locate a weaver scope base for the Marlin .22 caliber 981TS stainless steel bolt action with the magazine tube hung under the barrell. My 8 years old granson, for whom I purchased the rifle has become a good shot using nothing but the open sights and I want to make it more fun for him buy putting on a scope. But for some reason I cannot locate the prober scope base. You would think it would be on the Marlin home page but I cannot find it.

Can anyone advisie me on this? Thanks.

To my surprise, the barrel is drilled and tapped for a scope base. It is not grooved.

OK, I found a two piece Weaver scope base on Cheaper than dirt. It wasn't offered with the 4 required screws, but I am hoping I can use the screws that are already screwed in the receiver of the rifle or maybe buy some screws locally.

    Hi tr fox,

Good to see you over here again.

Yup, the bean counters at Savage, and Marlin have been at it again. That putting the 3/8 scope mount dovetail in, is an extra movement in the CNC machine center...so eliminate it. Pretty soon when we get a rifle, it will be in the form of two pieces of pipe, one rifled, and a 2x4, with the blue prints.

I believe that the Weaver bases you are looking for are the size 18. Figures they would have a different reciever countour than Savage.

Grandsons are great fun, as any kids are in general. Keep the good work s going!

I think Weaver #12's will fit front and back.
