It depends. FWIW, I don't crimp my .222 and Hornets but do use a Lee Factory Crimp die on my .257, .308 and /06 hunting loads. So long as your expander die allows for a solid grip you probably don't need to; especially with the bolt action. Main thing is you don't want bullets pushed deeper into the case under recoil or left in the chamber if you clear the chamber without firing. I crimp all of my handgun ammo. With revolvers and pistols you don't want bullets moving forward under recoil. With revolvers I'll chamber 6 rounds, fire 5, reload and fire the new 5. If the one round left unfired doesn't move after 10 rounds I figure I'm good to go. If the bullet is moving forward then I'll a bit more crimp.
p.s. Welcome to the Forum. [:D]

I use a Lee factory crimp die for my 223 and 308.
My 223 is a custom, Douglas barrel Rem 700.
    The 308 is a Rem. 700 PSS-LTR.
Both get a little tighter groups with crimped rounds.

on the AR platform, if you are hunting with it, i would recomend crimping your loads. i have noticed that if i chamber a round, then remove it from the chamber without firing the round, put it back in the magazine and chamber the same round later in the day the action acts like a kenitic bullet puller. after two or maybe three chamberings the projectile has creaped out of the case enough that it won't fit back in the magazine. fwiw

I don't crimp any of my hunting ammo, but I do crimp with a small taper crimp for my auto's(AR-15, and AR-10). I also do crimp for my revolvers.
