I just bought my first tc contender at an auction. It is a tc super 14 in 41 mag, it also has a leupold 4x scope an mounts over size grips with thumb rest very little use only had half a box of shells with it no ring on bolt face so it was either well cared for, or shoot very little. it also came with a 10" 22 hornet barrel an fore arm.I only paid 325.00 for it. My question is did i do ok price wise, is this a good cal for deer size game, any info i would greatly appericate it.Thanks mike

Great price! Good deer gun in the .41 mag. The whole outfit would bring 2 to3 hundred more than you paid.

You got yourself a smoking deal! Both are great calibers. That 22 Hornet, you can shoot almost all year on a pound of powder. That 41 magnum is one to hold on too. There is not an aweful lot a 44 can do that it cannot. I have a Ruger Redhawk in that caliber, and love it.

    good deal ? hell ya
receiver by itself is worth 200 , the scope 125 , each barrel in the 150 to 175 range , grips and forearm , add another 50 or so

so for what you paid you got both barrels for free and yes that 41 mag will do just fine on deer

Thanks for the info guys. I thought i did good, as it was first time i bought a pistol from an auction. The weekly auction house near me has a gun auction about every 6 weeks an they have been pushing about 60 to 80 guns a night out. Eveything from moder to military to antiques. My dad got a 98k mauser for 140.00 am a 6.5 jap for 50.00 at the previouse sale. Now i also bought the bullet molds an brass for the 41cal at the same sale so only have to get the reloading dies. Just got to figurie out what brand rcbs or the hornaday. thanks again guys

RCBS CARBIDE...also, buy up all the 41 mag brass you can. I just got a bag of 500 from a guy in New England...all Starline...real good stuff.

As a matter of fact, here is an auction link to another batch of it!

For the dies I would sugest LEE. Just as good as RCBS and a whole lot less expensive. Mine have been working just great for over 30 years. I also just LOVE my REDHAWK, both BLACKHAWKS and MARLIN in this caliber.

    For GOD and COUNTRY

    Not as Lean[:D][:D]Not as Mean[:(!]But STILL a MARINE[}:)][}:)]

Well, figure the used Super 14 barrel goes for about $175.00 used, the 10" 22 Hornet - not really sure, some of the old octagons are sort of collectible but let's "guesstimate" $125.00. Leupold handgun scope and rings is probably $200.00 and the frame itself (G2 or old style) another $150.00 to $200.00. Figure you got an about $600.00 deal for $325.00 - that's pretty good.

Reloading for both these rounds is a good approach, get carbide dies for the 41 Magnum. I neck size only all my bottle neck calibers for the T/C. Hornady, RCBS, Lyman & Redding all make good dies. Lees are fine too, I tend to buy their carbide sizing die because it's priced well.

You didn't buy this you stole it. I had one in 41 mag. but only sold it because I also have a S&W 41 mag. As others suggested reload it that is where you'll see the most potential and I'd also go with the Lee dies.

Thanks for the info guys. Tlked to dad he is leaning toward the hornady dies due ti the expander type setup. Did get 200 rounds of new brass for 20.00 and 500 rounds of bullets for 30.00 at this past saturday nite auction. There was a set of RCBS dies but the were too rusty to use. Dad did happen to buy 2 4 cavity molds in 41 cal for 35.00 each, there sarco dies i believe. I already have dies for the 22 hornet so no problem there. thanks for the input

Unless your just going to be shooting off a rest/sandbags at a range with the Super 14, get a Harris bipod for it. The long heavy barrel plus scope makes it a beast unless you have a real stable shooting platform out in the field. Probably why only had a half box of shells was through it. They take some getting use to functioning wise if you figure on horsing it around out in boonies. The 22 Hornet barrel is a lot more practical in that respect.
