I assume there were factory options for peep sights correct?
What sight would one expect to see. does anyone have photos of a factory 94 w/peep sights?. My pre-64 has peeps, they are redfields, and I assume they were added later. It does shoot like a dream.

I assumed this gun was drilled and tapped for the peep sight aftermarket. Great shooter and will allways be one, no dust on this one! Have now plenty of brass for reloading

Yes, you are correct. Depending upon the exact vintage, there were different peep sights offered. Up through the beginning of WW II, tang mounted peep sights were installed as a special order option (Lyman was the most common, followed by Marbles). In the early 1950s, Winchester factory drilled and tapped the upper left side of the receiver for a Lyman (or Redfield) peep sight, but did not install the sight unless specifically ordered.

I have an heirloom Model 1894 that according to the book full of errors was made in 1898. I don't know the correct DOM, but my wife's uncle bought it used in the late 1920s, so it's clear that it's very pre-64. To the point, it has a tang mounted peep sight, that appears to be a Lyman, though I can find no ID markings. It has the two size rotating peep, and the blueing under the sight has seen very little light, so I'm guessing it is one of those described by Bert that was factory installed.
Hello Ray,
What is the serial number? I can get you real close to the actual DOM with the serial number.
As for the Lyman tang sight, it should have patent date(s) marking on the smooth part of the elevation staff (below the knurled section). It should also have an application code stamped on the under side of the base.

The serial # is 132988 and the only writing these old eyes can find on the tang sight is located on the lower part of the post, above the pivot but below the knurled sleeve that adjusts the aperture height, says "pat Jan 28(or 9),'79-May 6,'84". I didn't want to remove it from the tang, but seems to me that I didn take it off about 25 years ago and at that time I found no writing, but then I didn't what I was looking for. Thanks for the help. Considering we are fairly close (in internet terms) we really should get together some time for a show and tell.

Hello Ray,
Circa 1903 is the DOM. If you want the exact date, the Cody Firearms Museum has the records and can letter your Rifle for you.
The application code should be a "D" (32-40 and 38-55), or as "DA" (all other Model 1894 calibers).
I live in the Bremerton area, but am in the Snohomish area nearly every weekend. Do you attend either of the WAC gunshows (at Puyallup or Monroe)?
