I have inherited a .22 Remington Autoloading rifle, it is patented March 10th 1914, mfg. in Illion, NY, magazine is in the butt, rifle seperates when you slide a release that looks like a screw, on the bottom in front of trigger guard is stamped RB 1142, can someone help me providing model number, proper ammo (modern .22 cart. jam easily), and approx. value, thanks,
Tom

It sounds like what you have is a model 24A these came in 22 SHORT only and another model in 22LONG RIFLE only or maybe a model 241A depending on if 21 inch barrel or 24 inch barrel the 24A started in 1922-1935 and the 241 from 1935 to 1951 Browning made a gun almost exactly like it for many many years. Thee other remingtom model 16 did take a special cartridge but did not have a barrel take-down nut. The model 24.241 ejects out the bottom the model 16 ejects out the side and has 22 inch barrel the action is sort of hump backed made 1914-1928
