I am trying to nail down just when the Stevens Favorite extractor moved from the seven o'clock position in the receiver to the six o'clock position. Perkins says Stevens changed the design in 1898. DeHass says it moved "in about 1901". Anybody have more information??

Can anyone tell me which model Favorite had a knurled ring around the barrel at the chamber end threaded to control headspace? The receiver has " Stevens A & t co. " stamped on it. Any guess as to date of MFG ?

That sounds like an alarmingly strange problem for a Stevens Favorite. I really can't quite fathom how it happens. But do a search for "Wisner's" for repro parts.

...That doesn't sound like a Favorite, which has a falling breechblock, something like a Win 1885. Could it be a Little Scout? That should have a rolling type breechblock, although I do have a Little Scout with a Favorite marked barrel, just to confuse matters.

I have one that had the loose action problem. Bought it here @ auction and seller did'nt mention the problem in the listing. He agreed to a refund to cover the repairs rather than have a return.
Local"smith" fixed it. It was worn interal action parts that one of the screws you see on the side of the receiver goes thru inside. He made an oversize screw that fit the internal parts and tightened up the action.
I have no idea what could cause the hammer to self cock. But altho I paid to have mine fixed, they are reportedly pretty simple. And Wisner's has the mainspring if you think that's it.
