Well I tried to get my FFL to do a small gun business in my
basement at home. I filled out the application along with picture
and fingerprint card. Waited for 45 day's and ATF contacted me wanting
to do an interview. I made arrangments for ATF to come out and go over all paper work rules, regs, ect. Everything was all good to go until zoning jumped in. I don't live in a subdivision. I live 15 miles
from the closest town. I mean I live out in the sticks....Farming area, only 2 neighbors close to me....and they are both avid hunters. Here is what the zoning laws said:

SECTION 9.11 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS GOVERNING HOME OCCUPATIONS:
Home occupations shall include the use of the premises for services rendered other than by direct contact with customers at that location (for example, where the bulk of the business is by telephone - actual work is performed in home and customer is contacted in other than that location). The following requirements shall apply to home occupations when permitted herein:
    A. No persons other than members of the family residing in the premises shall be
    engaged in such operation.
    B. The use of the dwelling unit for the home occupation shall be clearly incidental
and subordinate to its use for residential purposes by its occupants. Not more
that twenty-five (25) percent of the gross floor area of any one floor of the
dwelling unit (including the basement or cellar) shall be used in the conduct of
    the home occupation.
    C. There shall be no change in the outside appearance of the building or premises,or other visible evidence of the conduct of such home occupation that will indicate from the exterior that the building is being utilized in part for any purpose other than that of a dwelling unit, except that a name plate as regulated be Article XIV of this ordinance, shall be permitted.
    D. No home occupation shall be conducted in any accessory building, nor shall
there be any exterior storage of any materials on the premises.
    E. There shall be no commodity sold upon the premises in connection with such home occupation.
    F. No traffic shall be generated by such home occupation in greater volumes than
would normally be expected in a residential neighborhood.
    G. No equipment or process, which creates noise, vibration, flare, fumes, odors, or electrical interference detectable to the normal senses off the lot, shall he used in such home occupation. In the case of electrical interference, no equipment or
process, which creates visual or audible interference in any radio or television.

ATF will NOT issue A FFL license's because of RULE # E
ATF did not have a problem with any of the rules except RULE # E
I applied for the license back in May of this year. Now I've been waiting since August for my 200.00 application fee to be refunded.
Now here is what makes me really Pi$$ed off. There is a guy that lives 10 minutes from me that is A FFL holder doing a business out of his home, and we both live in the same County!! Check this out:
    http://www.*.com/Help/FFLMemberDisplay.cfm?UserNum=6398235731
Please give me some helpful insight to this problem . I still want my
    FFL's........Thanks......

How easy or hard is it to obtain an FFL? Is it worth the effort? Are the pamphlets I see purporting to help you get an FFL any good?
    Thanks Miles

    When in doubt go faster

How would one start in looking for an FFL? Are there papers I need to fill out? I'm guessing there are. Can it be done on-line? any info would be helpful.
Sorry if this seems a stupid guestion, I'm somewhat new at this and not even sure what FFL stands for. But after reading a few different forums, It does seem important to have a "FFL" in order to exchange anything with anyone.

What amount of buying and selling would one do to justify obtaining a FFL? For a hobby, not a small business.

I have heard to get a FFL you need to have an actual business.
I have a business licence that was issued to me by the city I live in. It is a license to sell firearms out of my home. (city has exceptions for home businesses) Do you think this will satisfy the requirements for a FFL?

    Thanks

I plan on getting a semi auto pistol from GB and got a FFL lined up. And in Arizona there is the back ground check to get a handgun. Is there a way for me to get that out of the way before I pay for this handgun or is that only when it arrives. (its my first handgun.)

The answer "YES" was given but I'm not sure I have read anything other than a copy with an original signature or fax... makes sense it would be ok but I haven't seen it written by ATFC that way yet...

"It is ATF's position that any signature--whether it is done by hand with a pen, stamped, or auto-penned--is an original signature, if the person whose signature appears intends it as an original signature."
