Thread being continued...
How does a 9.3x62mm compare to a 300 WM out to 350 yards?
I appreciate the help tremendously...
I love my 30-06 but just looking for something with a little more "BEEF" to add to my battery for elk and African plains game...
I mentioned to my PH several monthes ago I wanted to bring my 30-06 and he said that would be perfect with a 180 grain premium...
Its just on my next trip back I would like to take another rifle with me with a bit more fire-power without blowin-up the farm so to speak...I just enjoy shooting different calibers as a whole...Plains game is my league,...hunting the big five is not in my plans...Maybe one day CAPE BUFFALO and that's about it, I would be more than happy!!!
Thanks for your patience, time, and knowledge...[8D]

my answer for the 338/0 also applies to the 9.3 only more so. This is a medium range cartridge-under 300 yards.
Now this is looking more apparent to me the 300 WM is maybe what I'm looking for...????
Decisions...Decisions...As I like the flexibiblity to be able to reach out there and touch something if I have to...[:D]
Anyone else???
From my notes on the .300 WM:
Using the 180 gr. Barnes TSX-BT, you can end up with about 2100 ft.lbs. of energy at 400 yards with a drop of 23.5" and drift of 9.5" on my range. This is with a 100 yard zero. If you want to improve the trajectory a little, increase your zero to 200 yards. This is from one of my FN Mausers with a 24" barrel. Total gun weight with a 2-1/2 - 10x IOR Valdada and quick release mounts is 9-3/4 lbs. The recoil by calculation is about 22 ft.lbs. which to me is very tolerable when compared to some of the other cartridges I shoot...
Best.
Medium-Range Cartridges...That's how I like to hunt but I still think I wouldn't want to give up on a shot on a hunt of a lifetime in Africa because I handi-capped myself with a cartridge that couldn't get out there if needed to...[:D]
Thanks to all for helping me!!!
If you reload; you can better those numbers by almost 15% and bring your groups down to less than 4".
Be sure to take your rangefinder!
In my other post I mentally blipped on what you were really asking. My 9.3x62 has flip up 300 yd. sights and it gets there. Mind you it's completely open sighted. I personally think it would be a chore to get out to 375 with it and any point in between because of it's trajectory. The .300 Win Mag would win that race every time. So, FWIW I would go with the .300 for the range you are talking about. But, as my primary rifle I would go with the 9.3x62.
