Would like to have my 629 Smith stainless revolver polished to a bright stainless by a reputable company. Anyone have a recommendation?

I've seen someone with no skill put a beautiful polish on a matte Colt 1911-type. All he used was different grades of steel wool. If you're not happy with the results, it won't cost you any more to have a professional re-do the job.

But, if you insist: Pittsburgh Handgun, 1330 Center Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15229, 412-766-6100.

A revolver might be a bit more tricky than an old slabside 1911. Myers has it right, since that is where colt sends stuff out to.

I took my matte stainless Taurus and got it much brighter with a lot of elbow grease and simichrome. Took it from a matte finish to more of a really bright semi gloss/satin

Use Flitz to finish the polish job, it's good stuff.
    For what it's worth.

If you have a high speed tool such as a Dremel, you can get felt 'bobs' (from hobby shops, gunsmith suppliers) to use with polishing compound to brighten it up. Kitchen products such as Soft Scrub can be used for polishing compound and finish with tooth paste if you want a bit more glisten.

As with anything new, it is a good idea to try it on something that doesn't matter before you attack your gun.

I used Mother's Mag Polish on my scuffed up S&W 64-2 and it now looks like a nickle revolver. Amazing stuff.

...Yes! Mag-Bright will work also. I forget which product has the compound impreginated in cotten, comes in a can, great stuff!

...The stuff is amazing. You can take the matt finish and rub it down for 15-20 minuets a day with this stuff, keep this up for awhile and I gaurantee that before you know it; you will have obtained a very bright finish with no worry of "cupping" lettering or screwing anything up. It works and is safe and easy...for those not good with a polising wheel or wanting to spend $$$ for a bright finish...[;)]
