1.5 or 2 power scope for close range

I need a short range rifle scope as I cannot see well anymore.
When I find low power scopes they say "Shotgun Scope".
My question is, will these work on a rifle as well as shotgun?
What is the difference?

I did consider the Red Dot, but as I have never used one, I am reluctant to buy one to experiment with.

Shorter focus point like a 22 scope, maybe more beefy construction to handle recoil. Maybe a longer eye relief.

Have you considered a red dot?

How close? You might consider a 1.5x5 Leupold Vari-X3. Leupold can adjust parallex and focus if you need it but I think you will find it clear and bright just out of the box...and you have the option to go up to 5X if you need it. I have one on my rifle and I love it!!

I have a red dot sight on a 9mm carbine rifle. Good out to 100 yards for me.

Every scoped hunting rifle I own all have a Leupold 1.5 to 5 power scope on them. On 1.5 power your field of view is such that the front sight is visible in the scope...it works perfectly for close or woods hunting. If you have time for a londger shot you have 5 power available and if that's not enough to see a big game animal well enough you probably shouldn't be shooting at it.

Your scope will work fine on a rifle, but the parallax will likely be set for around 75 yards instead of about 150 yards..... That would be about the only difference between the two..
