Lee, Is the Winchester you are checking out a Mod 70 Sporter Varmint? They were made from 1986 to 1992 in .223rem,.243win,.22-250 and for a couple of years in .308win. I have three and am looking for the .308 ,I am very pleased with mine both from the craftsmanship and performance with factory ammo-the .223rem loves 55gr Hornandy Varmint express but it shoots like a house afire with the Wally World 200 bulk pack Federal 50 gr JHPs at 28c/round, the .243 and 22-250 shoot almost as well but Im still trying factory fodder to see what works best.I save all brass and will reload for all in the future. If you donot go for the gun your checking out I am interested. the 1986 run should look like this gun minus the insert above the rear stock swivel stud. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=89955132 very best
