I am looking for any available information regarding shotguns made by Imman Meffert of Suhl.
I recently purchased a highly engraved, 16 gauge side by side that I can not find any information on.

Any information or book references would be helpful.

    More info needed
Some info available from the German Gun Collecters. They have a website.Imman had his own shop in Suhl in East Prussia starting around 1839.He worked until he was in his mid 90's.His firm survived until 1962 when it was absorbed by the GDR or Buhag which was the Communest gunmakers cooperative. The guns made before the war were of the highest quality.
some are quite valuable. He was also responsable for many patents and was the first to use the lightweight Duraluminium frames. He also made some faux Damascus barreled shotguns right up to the 1916 which is the date of manufacture on mine. Most shotguns and combination guns will have a date of manufacture on the watertable.1/16 meaningJanuary 1916.May also be written as one, underscore and a 16 under that.
    Hope this helps.

There are 2 books available that I know of.The standard dictionary of proof Marks(just recently out of print, but some may still be available on the net or gunshops with a good supply of books.)This one would tell alot by the proofs. The other is a meffert Cataloge available from the German gun collecters.
