Wehrmacht_45, your reply was somewhat helpfull, my rifle is marked 24/47,straight bolt handle, flat butt, and the handguard goes to the foreward barrel band,(6" short of front sight). Is this the reworked 98, or some other manufacturer alltogether. You are also right about the roll mark, even with magnification the numbers are not clear.
Mike Wiskey mentioned a data base of crests on mausercentral but I can't find it. Thanks for the help, would like to hear more.

There's a depiction of Military Mauser crests in the 28th Edition of the Blue Book, pgs. 1104 to 1114.

Your local library may have a copy.

"my rifle is marked 24/47,straight bolt handle, flat butt, and the handguard goes to the foreward barrel band,(6" short of front sight). Is this the reworked 98,"... YOUR RIFLE STARTED OUT AS A 7x57MMmm AND WAS REBUILT BY YUGOSLAVIA TO 8x57mm. STILL A BASIC M-98 AND GOOD SHOOTER.
