Just got a Lefever Nitro Special in 410, serial #260514. I know it was made between 1921-1948. Can someone narrow it down a bit?
Thanks for looking,
W.D.

I have had this guns for years. I got it from my Grandma when my Grandpa died. I don't know much about guns, I stick to guitars and music. I have looked into selling it before, but I don't know the best way to proceed. The whole FFL and shipping the thing around the country sounds like a hassle. The gun is in fair shape at best. I do have quite a few pics.

What would yield the best sales price?

Take it to a gun show and take bids?
Put it for auction on Gunbroker/{elsewhere}?
I have even thought about trading it at a pawn shop for guitars.

    Links to some pictures.

Any guidance is appreciated - I live in Southern Louisiana.

    Thanks,

I cant help you on the price with the poor condition its in but the shipping is easy, since it is a long gun you can ship it usps to any FFL holder, just take it to the post office and mail it,you do have to declair what it is but its legal to mail to any FFL.If it was in better shape I would make you an offer for it myself,as is run it on the auction side and it will bring a fair market price

I would love to walk into that pawn shop the day after you traded it in . At one time I think this was a fine little gun . I would say put it up for sale here and post item number back on this forum I for one will bid. You will get more then a tradein and you can ship direct to a Holder of a FFL lic . or a member that has a C&R "COLLECTOR" lic. even through the post office or UPS / FEDEX

.410's rule! In great shape it's a $2000 gun - The shape it's in would still get you $500 or a bit more....

I appreciate all the info - it's been a long day at work and then getting my studio rigged up. I will reply to the individual emails in the next day or so. A fair offer and a local pickup would be great. I think I may list it for auction - have to read all the details for listing it. Here is a description I worked up a year or 2 ago.

    LEFEVER NITRO SPECIAL 410 GA

If I had to rate it against the NRA standard I would
say it is in FAIR condition.

Serial Numbers match on the barrel, Receiver, and
Plate in Forearm. Serial number is not on the wood in
    the forearm.
Serial number is in the 267xxx range.

    Specs
    Hammerless
    2 Triggers
    Ejectors
    .410 ga
    Barrel Length 26"
(middle of b/p) to front trigger = 14 inches
(middle of b/p) to rear trigger = 13 inches
    Overall Length = 42 inches
Drop at Comb= ????? (no clue what that means)
Drop at Heal= ????? (no clue what that means)
    Front and Mid Barrel Beads

    Markings on Metal
A and Serial Number on inside of forearm plate
Right Barrel has LEFEVER NITRO SPECIAL on top. On
bottom (under forearm) has an LLH and 2
Left Barrel has LEFEVER ARMS CO, ITHACA, N.Y on top.
On bottom (under forearm) has serial number, LLH and a
    4.
Center of Barrel has a BP stamped near the forearm
    catch
Serial Number, PAT'D, and 410 stamped on top inside of
    receiver
Left Side of Receiver has a Flying Duck some line
markings in the corners. It also has a fairly deep
line as a continuation of the curved part of the
receiver. The duck looks original and is fairly worn,
but the other lines look non-factory to me.
Right side of the Receiver has the fairly worn duck
and a different set of lines - again they look
    non-factory to me.
Bottom of Receiver has small lines going out from the
hole and screw to the front of the trigger gaurd
making a sun like pattern - again looks non-factory to
    me.
Several Small lines carved in corners and bottom of
    metal plate in forearm.

    Markings on Wood
Forearm has red dot inlay and 2 white diamond inlays.
Rather than a diamond shaped carved portion on the
bottom of the forearm, this gun has 2 triangular
shaped carved portions and the points meet at the
    bottom of the forearm.
Butt,Stock,Pistol Grip has checkered carving on both
sides, white diamond shaped inlay above trigger on
left and right sides, and white diamond shaped inlay
on bottom behind trigger mounting extension.

    Condition
I have never shot it, but it functions properly.
    Safety engages automatically when opening.
Appears to be no bluing on receiver.
Barrel has no or very light bluing.
Some minor rust - especially on and around trigger
    guard.
    Receiver has moderate patina/light scratching.
Forearm has small repaired crack and damaged white
    diamond shaped inlay.
Forearm checkerboard pattern missing 2 blocks on left
    side
Barrel has 2 slight indentions on bottom @12.75 inches
    from the end of barrel.
Right Barrel has noticable ding on right side @ 5.5
    inched from end of barrel.
Stock/Pistol Grip has slight crack from bottom of
    safety into left side checkerboard.
All wood parts have minor dings and scratches.
All metal has patina and light rust.

    Summary
Overall it appears to be a great little gun, but it
appears that the wood may have been replaced and
someone may have tried to add some etching.
