S&W DA .45 serial number vs value question

I have a S&W DA .45 stamped "U.S.ARMY MODEL 1917 No 80784" and need to know if the serial number has any effect on the value of the weapon. I understand that if it were No 1, there would be a different value, but maybe this number reflects production information, like location or quality or something else that I should be aware of. Also, does it mean all that much, towards value, if it doesn't have the original grips? Thanks

You can generally pick up a original set for about $70.00 at gun shows. IIRC, the earlier Smith 1917s had a slightly different grip design than the later version. Flat area meeting the metal frame instead of rounded out - or vice versa.
The Colt 1917 may be a bit different as the first ones had chambers bored straight through, later Colt 1917s did not. May be a slight premium for the earlier version.
