10mm Thoughts and such...

Good Day Forum,
I'm thinking about adding a 10mm to my collection, probably a G20. I've never shot 10mm nor do I know anyone at the range who has one that I might pick their brain. I carry a .45 (G30 and G21) 99% of the time and it seems to have enough energy to get most jobs done.
I'd appreciate some thoughts on this caliber before I drop another stack of Benjamins on one.
And let me continue to express my most sincere respect and appreciation for ALL U.S. service personnel and VETS !!! Without your unselfish duty there would be no Gunbroker forum.

I like the the 10. If you can afford / reload, get one. Don't really care for the Blo....I mean Glock[8D], but if that is what floats your boat, get it.

The 10MM is a wonderful full power cartridge that has great power and accuracy, You simply cannot go wrong by picking a 10MM if you are a reloader. If you do not reload you will not find the true benefit of the 10MM as it can be diffacult and expensive to find the right load for your gun.
I would not chose a Glock as a starting point to a 10MM, there are far better choices in platforms to launch this round. Anything from the EAA Witness, Dan Wession or Kimber all the way to the S&W 610 revolver would be a better starting point.

The 10MM is awesome in the form it was designed. It is ballistically nipping on the heels of a 41 Magnum. However, 75 percent of the factory loads are based on the FBI load, or 40 S&W equivilent. The Winchester Silver Tip is the best round out there. I have killed deer with it, and carry my Glock 29 for black bear protection, and self defense. I have a Glock 20, and 29, and a S&W 1006, and 1076. The big glock is the most pleasurable to shoot, and does not have the muzzle flip like the other 3.

TSR your absolutely right about the glock not having muzzle flip, i noticed its a much more straight back recoil versus a flipup recoil. It was a pleasure to shoot.

I finally decided to give Glocks a try 2 years ago. I bought a Glock 20 in 10 mm, and a Glock 21 in .45 acp. After shooting them both quite a bit, I decided to keep the 10mm and sold the 45. I am very pleased with the 10mm Glock and carry it often, especially as a back-up when hunting. It also is my house gun and is always on the nightstand when I'm home. It has night sights and they are comforting to see glowing in the dark every night. I own SIGs, Colts, S&W's, and other handguns that are possibly better quality and worth more money, but for utility, toughness, and easy care, I like the 10 mm Glock.

When loaded properly, the 10mm is a good auto-equivalent of the medium revolver magnum calibers, so its a good hunting round, or a defensive/(offensive) round with the ability to get good penetration (ie through light cover).

That would make it "more gun" than some can handle, and more than many actually need.

Worth considering that 10mm ammo is pretty expensive, and can be hard(er) to find than the more common calibers.

    Get the 20C with the comp'd barrel/slide.

That way you have pleasent shooting, but they make a 6" bbl for hunting that will give you extra punch.

And I'd take a 10mm Glock anyday over metal framed guns. Even the "Glorious Colts" crack. 10mm is hard on a pistol.

Have a Glock 20C, well worth the money. 10mm is a great round. Alot of swat teams use it. I love it. Fun to shoot. Expensive to buy.

Its a great round, the dirty harry of autoloader cartridges. Ammo is expensive and not easy to acquire. I have shot the Witness in it, but I personally carry a 38 Super. Not as much punch, but such a nice power vs recoil ratio.

I have two Colt Delta Elites. They and the 10mm caliber is a marriage made in heaven. You might try getting a Witness 10mm instead of the Glock. Glocks have a habit of kabooming in anything bigger than 9mm. The Witness is a steel frame and can handle the cartridge. I have had my Delta Elites since they came out and no malfunctions of any kind to date. You can even use .45 auto mags as spares if you need to and they carry an extra shell.

More utter nonsense from the Glock-haters.

The only 10mms I've ever seen blown up were doublecharged by careless reloaders.
