My father has a Rem 550-1 that was his fathers and i need a receiver and a receiver plug. These two pieces are stripped out and the plug pops out after just a few shots. I think that i have the correct names for these parts. Double check if you dont mind. Here is a website with the pictures :

Can the barrel be taken off of the reciever? The reason that i ask is because the rifle you have on auction is in a lot worse condition than the one that my father has.
EDIT: B Mc: Joe here again. I didn't explain myself adequately. Sorry. Have the G/S drill/install a roll-pin cross-wise (transverse) below the woodline on the rear of of the receiver where the plug screws in. It will be impossible to notice after the receiver is placed back into the stock. Again, sorry for my not explaining the procedure in detail during my first post. Joe
EDIT 2: Hi, Joe again. Wish you had an older S&W revolver to refer to. Can you envision how the barrel is pinned in place? The pin goes completely through the frame from right to left in such a location that it barely "nicks" the threads on the barrel. Your plug would be like a S&W barrel. After drilling through, the plug will have a small notch in the threaded area. And it will just barely be touched by the pin. It [the pin] would prevent rotation, and backing out of the plug. Should be a roll-pin to prevent the pin from working side-to-side. And please respond using the edit function, as I have done. Go to the last post you typed, and click on that little symbol with the pencil in it and type your response at the bottom. We're locked out after ten responses here. Best, Joe
EDIT 3: Yes. Complete drill-through has merit. And easier to accomplish, and stronger. It will be visible, however (above the woodline of the stock). The pin won't detract from the overall looks of the receiver after the work is complete. Good luck in what you decide. Joe
I want to keep the gun as original as possible.
Sentimental value, you know.[:D]
If so the gunsmith would drill through the receiver where the plug threads into then all the way through the plug and the other side of the receiver???
That is the thing i dont really think but am not completely sure that it is turning when it pops out. I think it just pops out!!! I am curious as to how far the spring retainer sits in the plug. I am wondering if i could do something like i was talking about just above. Drilling all the way through the reciever and the plug. What do you think.
Thanks alot Joe. I really appreciate all the help. Let me know if you need any help on anything. I am just not sure what my father wants to do about this whole situation. He is sort of tore up about the fact that it is messed up. We will get it straightend out. Thanks again.
