Nagant Revolver

Do any of you guys own one of these M1895 Nagant revolvers? I see them being sold at gun shows and on here for around $150. They look like a fun informal plinker/fun gun. I'm not expecting a tack driver-just something reliable and not too $$$$$ on the ammo.

Was it a brillant design or a flop. I personally think it was a brillant design and wonder why someone else has not taken it a step further. Yep, it has terrible trigger pull but good American engineering can fix that.
The cylinder moving into the barrel is just plain good design
    , in my opinion. tom

I am really interested in the nagant revolver. Do you have to change the cylinder to shoot 32 LC shells and 32 mag? This gun is so ugly that it is beautiful. Are there any calibers that can be fired as is or does it need a convertable cylinder to any other calibers? What about 7.62x25?

I read that the Nagant revolver will fire the H&R 32 mag. If true, it should also fire the 32 S&W correct? I know that it is ygly and has the worst trigger ever for a hand gun. But, it is cheap so has anyone ever tried to improve the trigger. Could one be modified for single action and the cylinder movement be disconnected? Do I have too much time on my hands?

I just got one of these, I got the spare .32ACP cylinder too.

Look at this listing, it states that you can shoot .32ACP with the 7.62x38R (Nagant) cylinder.

    My questions is CAN YOU?

Ammo is not cheap, nor easy to find. You can shoot 32 S&W long, and 32 H&R Mag in them from what I hear, but the cases will not be reloadable.

Most of these are single action only, unless you get an officers model.

The triggers are terrible, and you can get used ones for less than 100 bucks if you shop around.

For a cheap gun I recommend looking into a CZ52. Cheaper ammo, easier to find ammo, more accurate, and all around more powerful.

saw a few of those CZ's at the gun show this weekend too-thanks for the tip. Just looked at the price of ammo for the Nagant sheesh you weren't kidding. I thought surplus firearms were cheap to shoot lol

If you reload, no more expensive than anything else. Otherwise a pricey gun. I like mine but for cheap blasting ammo second the CZ 52 or any other gun in 7.62X25.

For a little more the Romanian Tokarevs might be a good deal. Centerfire systems is selling them for close to your price range.

    ...$150 is HIGH. I just sold a mint 1934(?) for $80, Tula.

...The ONLY way you can shoot .32 rounds in the Nagant is to buy a replacement cylinder in that cal....cost is $40-$50 bucks. One of the import houses should hook you up w/the cylinder...the ammo for the original gun, not in .32...is pricey and wont be found at Wally World...or too many places...[;)]

...Oh yeah, I wouldn't try shooting .32mag in it either.

It has been done, and someone even wrote an article about it in Wikipedia. It always bulges the cases, sometimes splitting them.

ok, the scoop from this carolina crazy is, yes you can shoot 32sw long and reload it a few times (the case buldges, but you can resize 'till it splits. with the kind of loads we're talking its not too hazardous [B)]). 32-20 works really good if you seat the bullet deep (i usually use an 80-85gr). you also can get brass from starline and dies from lee. oddly enough they're all double action ('cept the more expensive officer's model), but the trigger pull is horendous, shooting single action ain't too bad. not terribly accurate, but a neat and interesting AFFORDABLE piece of history. the 32sw cylinders are up to about $75 now. 32mag might be a bit HOT in it[xx(], but they're built tough as a Russian Krubnik.

well I guess I could always get the extra cylinder and reload as I do for my other pistols. I've always been a fan of historical firearms-more so with old west stuff, but I do like guns that are made with wood and metal more than the plastics.

I'd go with Ruger 41's advice, unless you just want to have one to "go with other Mosin-Nagant's " you have.

The CZ-52 grip is a bit 'long', but I like it since I have a long hand. The round has plenty of punch and milsurp ammo can be found cheap. It has some 'novel' features and mine shoot well.

My guns are shooters. Some have fair collectible value, and may be shot only on special occasions and with care...but shot.

I had a Pistol as you mention. Did not enjoy shooting it at all, but it fit in a trade just fine.

Go with what you want/like/think you want to try....then ENJOY !
