I was wonderin if someone could give me some info on a hand gun I am thinkin about purchasing. Its a Hi-Point 9mm. I have not heard much about them, although the gun dealer assured me they have been around for many years and that they are a good gun for the money. I am also sure he is tellin me this to get a gun sale too. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated..

    thanks

Does anybody have any dealings with Hi Point[8D] Was at a gun store they listed a 40 cal for about 189.99 brand new. So I check it out it seems heavy built but kinda ulgy looking[8D] Just wondering if there were any Hi Point users out there?[?]

Just Checked out one of the threads bashing HI POINT. I can say with some accuracy that most have not even shot one. The carbine rocks...period! After 1000+ rounds never a jam and very accurate and I will pit it against a STORM as soon as I can find some poor soul willing to schuck out the big bucks for one. I also have the compact 9mm and wow for a 100 bucks it rocks also.

Do not get me wrong I do own several SW's a few Dan Wesson's and Rugers and you do get what you pay for. But to call a HI POINT junk when it carries the best warranty on the planet no questions asked...what are you thinking?

Sorry to have to put it this way, but I wouldn't take the Hipoint as a gift. That pistol has become the joke of the semiauto market and is the very discription of the low end of the market.Several others will be by soon with personal acounts of the worthlessness of this handgun. You would be much better off spending a bi more money and buying a used Ruger P-89 or a S&W Sigma.

Is it the greatest gun in the world...no.... Will it go bang when you pull the trigger.... I think so. I have one in the .40 that I bought awhile back just to take to the range. It has been very reliable, never had a problem with it. If it is what you can afford it is a lot better than nothing.... that being said for a little more you could look at guns like the Bersa Thunder .380, or some used revolvers.

I grudgingly have to agree with ladams. Shot one in .45 at a shooters roundup here where over 7000 attended and more than half that shot the course. They were shooting it as fast as people stepped to the line, two guns, hot day. It went bang every time, cheap ammo, and truthfully, shot to point of aim(10 yards). It is blocky, butt ugly, and probably will be worth less than half what you pay for it (if that)when you DO trade for something nicer. Look around for a CZ, Ruger P89 or P90, maybe a HiPower clone(FEG, ect)
that is used to compare quality and price. The Hi Point will most likely still be there at the same price a month from now. It's probably OK, but there is better for not much more.

If you wanna go cheap, and HiPoint certainly does; try a Witness.
They are much better feeling, aesthetically pleasing, hand-filling, and only run around $300 or so.
BONUS- you could probably find accessories and parts for the Witness.

I own a HiPoint CARBINE, which is robust, overengineered, and weighs more than it should; but it shoots every time, is fairly accurate, and only cost $225 when I got it about 8 years ago. Wouldn't own one of their pistols.

How much is the Hi-Point? If it is close to $100, it might be OK, but lots of dealers get nearly $200 for them. For $200 you can get a used gun of better quality. The only redeeming quality of the Hi-Point is the lifetime, no questions asked, warranty.

Look at the catalog of any major holster manufacturer and see if anyone makes a holster for a Hi-Point. They don't.

For a first handgun, get a .22. You can afford to shoot it enough to be good at it. If you get a good quality .22, even used, it will keep a lot of its value in case you want to sell it later. But, you will probably want to keep it when you move up in caliber.

    GET A .22!!!

If you want something to turn you off handgun shooting, a Highpoint will do it. The Highpoint may go bang every time but there is much more to shooting than making noise.

A quality 22 it the best way to start out. Even after you graduate to bigger guns the 22's are great inexpensive practice, and a joy to shoot. For $200 you should be able to find a good used Ruger(which should last you forever). There is a big difference between having a lifetime warranty and having a gun that will be with you for a lifetime.
