OK the votes are in and thanx to all the gun experts who replied. I was stupid by not asking what kind of smooth barrel. The barrel currently on the gun is a 18" defender which when replaced will make a good cheater bar for socket wrenches or maybe a barrel on a toy gun I build for my son. Would a 26 vent rib w/ chokes be better than a 22" slug w/ rifle sights? I assume the 26" gives more velocity and I have some of those magnetic fiber optic sights that fit right on the rib. This is just a doe tag filler for shotgun/bow only season. Hunting out of a tree stand...100 yards max shot. thanx Rich

going to a long barrel will put slugs just about any where on the grid. Slug barrel is the way too go. 26 is best for waterfowl purpose but not slugs. However I used to hunt deer with a long barrel and so did my uncle. His was off 5" it the right. now we all have slug barrels with IC.
