M2 bipod: Look for DOD stencil (paint) on the upper flat, or on the front flat surface near the top. Looks like the eagle/star cartouche stamped into stocks. I've seen authentic milsurp sell for $200+. Joe

The painted DOD stamp is very rare-most just wore off. The bipod should be marked US M-2 Bipod. It will also be marked with 7792847-this is the drawing number for the bipod.

The newer Taiwanese made issue bipods are welded and obviously so. They will also be marked WMI for Wayne Machine Inc.

The older ones will have similiar markings, but are brazed assemblies and don't have welds. Any with a hole in the front is a repro and is worth about 50 bucks. Going rate for a USGI should be north of 200 bucks. Hope this helps.

Thankyou Folks. A Dealer says he has a bipod he will dig out of his inventory for me. Now I will know if I am looking at the real McCoy.

Are you buying for looks or for function? If you are buying for function there are much better bipods to use. I have not tried this set up on this gun but the bipod was ment for assisting in the SAW roll, not for accuracy. Mounting things to your bbl usually does effect accuracy and not in a good way. Just something to think about.
