What Are the Differences - M9, 92, 92F, 92FS?

I have an Italian-Made Beretta Model 92FS stainless handgun that I bought about 15 years ago.

I have seen these pistols variously designated as M9, 92, 92F, 92FS, but, I do not know what the differences are in the guns. I know the M9 is the US Military designation for their variant of the gun, but again, what specifically differentiates these guns from one another.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Morning Wolf~ Here are the basic differences..

92- First production with a frame mounted safety..

    92F-Slide mounted safety..

92FS-Has a slide retaining pin to prevent the slide from coming off..this was in response to some reports of a slide failure..

    M9-Military version of 92FS..

There were some slide configuration differences between the 92 and 92F as well..Don't remember the exact changes, other than flat to contoured..

Hangfire, I know nothing about the Beretta but your answer made me want to give you an atta boy and say how lucky we are to have a site like this. Nowhere else can a person talk to such a panel of experts. Makes my next trip to a gun store where I usually get the clerk stumbling and bumbling for anything they think sounds good to me less painful since there is an alternative. Carry on....

Well, thank you flyfisher..but I don't hold a candle compared to some of the real experts here..I just try to pass on a little info acquired after many years around guns..

    BTW..Don't be too rough on those young clerks!!..That's how I started..in 1961..[8D]
