will having scopes bases installed a sportized mauser 98 reduce the value of the rifle?

Hello IMHO no It has already been changed from a military collector so most people would want the choice on mounting a scope. Might add to the value as long as the drilling and tapping was done correctly.

    joes,

There are literally thousands of variations of the Mauser M98 pattern, military and sporting, so it's impossible to answer your question with any accuracy or certainty. Some are valuable, some aren't. There isn't a pat answer. There are some barreled actions that have a great deal of value as barreled actions so long as they aren't modified. It's also possible that someone just switched the stock and it could be returned to its original state if it had any value in the military or sporting configuration.

If you could post detailed, sharp photographs of your Mauser including the crest or roll mark and other markings on the action and barrel, we might be able to say for sure.

    Best.

I couldn't understand the current condition of this rifle from your post.
If the rifle is now in the original military configuration, then, yes, drilling and tapping for a scope will ruin the collector's value of this rifle.
