H&R 939 With Key Lock In Butt???

Ever see one? Pretty standard looking .22 revolver, but it has a keyed cylinder in the bottom of the butt. Insert key, turn several turns, like turning a screw, until it stops, and it is supposed to, I think keep the gun from firing. In this example, screwing the lock all the way in keeps it from cocking for a single action shot, but you can still pull the trigger all the way through for a double action shot. The key is marked H&R.

the model 939 with the key lock was offered between 1959 and 1972. if the key is turned all the way in it will block the hammer from rearward movement. if the hammer cannot be manually cocked but wil raise and fire the revolver in double action mode something is amiss and not working properly. the key lock is covered by patent #2945361 issued on july 19,1960.

a properly functioning key lock on a model 939 should increase its value about 25%.
