1903 Spngfld - Fair Price?

I've been offered a 1903 Springfield in what I would call "NRA Good" condition. The gun has been "sporterized" to the tune of what I imagine was generally performed on these guns back in th 50's or 60's. That is, the original stock was cut down and maybe some military-type hardware removed.

The asking price is $300, which I think is about double what the gun is worth. Am I right, or is this a fair price?

Thanks you guys in advance for your advice and input!

I'm with you, Wolf. For quite a few years sporterized 03's sold for $150-200, but the last couple of years folks seem to be paying as much as $250-300.

$300 should get you one that looks decent, not like a chopped military rifle in a cheap stock. And, the bore should be good with a low muzzle wear measurement. Otherwise, the price should be less.

If only the stock has been modified it will probably be worth more than $300 to restore to military configuration. The restoration value depends on whether it is a high or low number, whether of Springfield, Rock Island or Remington manufacture, whether it was a national match and possibly other factors. If metal is unmodified, it should part out for more than $300.
