I was just wondering what a 1st Gen. SAA Colt is worth. Is an 1873 with a serial # of around 30,000. I rate thyis gun an 8 out of 10. It was sent to the factory many years ago when they would fit it with a new barrel. They then sent all the original parts back with the gun in order to keep its originality if you should so wish. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A Colt Single Action Army with a serial number around 30,000 would have been manufactured around 1876.

Rework is never kind to collectable gun values, but factory rework will certainly lessen any devaluation. Do you have a factory letter documenting the fact that the factory reworked the Colt? When Colt's were reworked at the factory it would be noted in the ledgers that the gun was returned to the factory and during the rework process Colt would typically stamp an ampersand (&) or an asterisk (*) on the triggerguard bow to denote the rework.

The value range of your Colt could vary greatly, so in my opinion without high resolution pictures of your Colt that shows all aspects of the gun, including all markings, it would be next to impossible to give you a realistic assessment of its value. Also, if it still has the original parts with it that would be a plus and pictures of them would be of great assistance.

We would like the opportunity to help you, so if you would like to post pictures to help us there is information contained in the link titled "Posting Photographs" at the top of the "Ask the Experts" page.

As old colt stated one picture is worth 1000 words but be assured any Black powder PRE 1896 will be of considerable value having colt do the work plus the take off parts will also be a + . Dont discard or sell any of the old parts but keep as a package. Please post to this topic if you put the item up for sale.
