Hi, I would like to know the value of a very nicely sporterized german model 98 mauser. It is chambered in 243 winchester. It has been rebarreled, monte carlo stock new trigger etc. and comes with a weaver 4x12 accu trac scope. This was my uncles gun and I have no idea of the value. Can anyone help me?

Anybody here will want a photo. But having watched these on GB, they go for between $350 to $550 unless there is something special, like real good wood, scope, caliber. That being a .243 makes it a bit more valuable.

    phino,

It takes a really nice custom Mauser to break the $500.00 mark. The big thing that helps these is if the gunsmith has a widely known reputation.
I've seen customs sell for as high as 9k...unbelievable I know. Simply based on it being a famous gunsmith. And some really nice ones go for as little as $150.00...bad timing on the auction. Generally they go, as MBK said, in the $300-$500 mark. A unique caliber such as a .257 Robts or 9.3x57, might increase the price. But a common caliber that anyone could buy in a current manufactured rifle won't generally add to the price. But, it may help to get it sold quickly if that's what you're looking to do.

Hi again guys. Thanks for your response so far. I would like to post a picture so you can see it, but for some reason I can't get the add picture feature to work. Also won't let me cut and paste.

    phino,

You can't post photos directly from your computer's hard drive or cut and paste photos directly. You have to use a photohosting website to get the job done.

If you look at the top of the 'Experts' forum you'll see a sticky which contains the general instructions for posting photographs.

    Best.

    ADDED:

You can take the barreled action out of the stock to see if there is more information on the bottom of the action and barrel. Then post that information.

    Best.

Thank all of you for your comments so far. Finally figured out the picture thing. Like I said, this was my uncles gun. Wish I knew the gunsmith who did it. Markings on rifle are: DEUTSCHE WAFFEN - UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN. There is also a "B" within a circle which may mean something to a mauser buffs. This gun has a 24' barrel and comes with a Weaver V-12 II, Micro Trac Zoom Scope 4x12; fixed sling swivel studs; rose wood fore end and grip caps. There are only "very slight" dings and imperfections in the stock and blueing. I do know it is an excellent shooting rifle. Do you guys think it would be in the $300 to $500 dollar range?

Hello DWM is a famous maker of German fire-arms for many years. This will help the value . IMHO while the stock is pleasing to the Eye It's most likely a Mass produced item rather then custom made. This means that some one like Flaig's in Pa. or Bishop Stocks made the stock and the barreled action was fitted into this stock fit of metal to wood would be Key. I would say $450.00 + or -.
