backwards sight?

Hey there, new to this site and already got bad vibes for shopping and being cheap,so if I sound not so up on prices it's because I'm not.Now on to my question-I have a Colt Lightning small frame 22 cal. made somewhere between 1883&1887. It has a front sight w/ivory bead on one side and a buckhorn type onthe other. This sight folds forward which seems backward to me as the ivory inlaid bead is behind the metal when up and facing forward when down. Does anyone know if this is right?

sounds backwards to me. I have a number of med. frame lightnings but no 22 I think this is an aftermarket sight that some jack leg installed
