Getting Beaned!

Guys, I just bought a Kimber Eclipse Ultra(45). Beautiful gun...3" barrel, easily concealable, fits my hand well (I think). The problem is I'm getting beaned by half the ejected brass! The head guy at the range says I'm not gripping tight enough but I feel that I am. I am using the same grip I use with my Springfield 1911 and have no problem with it or any of my other semi-autos (numerous without this problem). He fired it and they both went out 90 degrees to the right. Granted he only shot twice yet easily half or more of my spent brass hits me in the face or goes in my shirt pocket or some other trick. Any help out there??
Thanks,
Joe

What ammo are you using? Have you tried any different ones?

Do you have the external extractor model?? You can see the extractor on the side of the slide just behind the ejection port. I have an external extractor model, and have some of the same problem. It had been better since breaking in. If the problem persists, and you have the external extractor, Kimber will fit an internal extractor slide(or so I have heard) for no charge.

If you are using a slide buffer try removing it and see if the problem goes away.

    gogojoe:

    Some ideas suggestions:
Does it have an "extended ejector"? This is the piece that mounts on the frame left side top under the slide. If so this can be shortened/ tuned.

Are you as lefty? I have had a few auto's that worked fine for everyone else but dumped cases on my head or shirt pocket, I'm a lefty. If you are you might try shooting "righty" and see if the problem goes away. If it does extractor tuning is your answer. You haven't "solved" anything by changing hands just relocated the gun so it dumps brass in a different zone. [8D]

As Scrubberguy stated the Ejector /extractor Can be tuned to prevent this
