    1. Sig
    2. Taurus (which I chose over Sig)
    3. Brick with a trigger

    quote:Ruger P345

    Sig P220 .45

    Taurus 24/7 .45

Talk about an apples and oranges comparison. They all might fire the .45 ACP but they are all very different guns in vastly different price ranges. Which one is the best? The SIG 220. But the bigger question is "which on is the best FOR YOU?" That is a harder question to answer as each of these handguns will fit your hand in a different manner. With handguns the fit means everything. The better the gun fits your hand the better you are going to be able to shoot it. Just remember, the gun that fits you the best is the best fit for you.

Along that thought, you might also want to take a look at the HK USP 45, it is is the same price range as the SIG 220 but it has slightly different fitting qualities.

Sig 220 all the way, unless you go with the Sig 1911....

I love how people ask for opinions about personal preference!

My dad has large hands and he loves the smaller pistol frames.

I love larger frames 1911, ruger P series etc.

Look, best bet is to go to a local shop or gun show and hold about 100 difference weapons.

This MUST feel good and natural in YOUR hand!

Forget money. My ruger P89 has thousands of round of every type through it and it has NEVER jammed. It shoots great groups and I've fired it enough that I can hit anything I point at.

My 1911 took $$$ and lots of TLC before it would shoot real well.

The Point is save your money, buy the right gun that will make your hand smile when you pick it up.

First what are you going to use it for? These are all designed and built with different uses in mind.

Sig is the best, but by far the most cash. The Ruger is basic and overbuilt, and the Taurus is completely different in the trigger mech.

Never owned a hand gun. Looking for something to shoot on the weekends. Have no idea what the differences are between them, other than the prices. I hear a lot of people say things about the way that it fits in your hand makes a big difference. How do i know when it fits right??

I have shot a few revolvers.
Only on semi, it was a HK usp .45. I like it but am not that impressed with it for what it costs.

I want something that is good for the price and something that is easy to maintain.

    I like the ruger.

Any suggestions on buying my first hand gun would be appreciated.

I like Denwa's comments. I've carried both a Smith and Wesson 669 and a Sig 226 on-duty. The Sig is a reliable, accurate, gun that never seems to jam or have other problems. The same is true for the Smith and Wesson, although not quite as heavy as the Sig. The one big difference to me is the way they feel in my hand. My smaller hands prefer the Smith. You need the right fit.

Sig if you have the money.
Ruger if you don't have the money.

Taurus only if you don't want a gun.

Go to an indoor shooting range such as 'The Firing Line' where the rent guns for shooting, and try out several. This will give you an idea of the "fit" refered to by the others. Then go from there.
    Fit is everything.
