I'm trying to mount a scope on an M1 carbine. I purchased an attachment that locks onto the rear sight mounting platform. Does anyone know what I need to remove and how?
Thanks

    Mount receiver solidly in smooth jaw vise and drive the rear sight out
    using a brass drift.
    Drive it out from left to right, striking the sight base as close to the receiver as possible.
    These sights are staked in so short solid blows are required.

    FWIW, a friend has tried one of those "no drill" M1 carbine scope mounts. If it has a single anchor point it generally doesn't work well. The mount shakes loose from the anchor in the dovetail slot. Loctite helps a bit, but not much.

    So when you say from left to right you mean I should strike it on the side opposite the cocking mechanism?
