This is probably a question asked a thousand times here, but is there an on line site or website that can give me the year a recently aquired Smith model 28 was mfg? It's a model 28-2. Bought with original box and unfired. Can this be checked on line by using the serial number?
Thanks.

    Ron,
The model 28 (numbered model) was manf. between 1957 and 1986 with 3 egineering changes, meaning yours is the second change, hence the 28-2. I just bought a 28-2 that was built in 1975, I can't tell you anymore about your 28 without serial #. Hope this helps.

I would call S&W's and ask, that's what I did for all my Smiths.

Post the ser# here. Several of us have a book the Standard Catalog of S&W,in there they list manufacture dates for ser#'s. If you do not want to list the whole number just x out the last 2 or 3 numbers(123xxx) it will have an N or S prefix before the number also.
