Garand Replacement Barrel

The trusty old garand needs a new barrel. I'd like a new USGI SA barrel, as the rest of the parts are SA, but they are so expensive. I'm still kicking myself in the rear for not getting one 4 or 5 years ago when they were easy to find and cheap. [:(][B)] Anyway, how much better is a GI barrel compared to a commercial barrel? Is it worth the additional cost? If I don't get a SA I was thinking about the commercial one from the CMP. How good are those? Thanks.

The Citadel barrels sold by CMP are every bit as good as USGI; they are an excellent value. For a "shooter", one of these should be fine.

If you want a post war barrel for your rifle you should be able to find one at a reasonable price or at least close to a new commerical price. If your looking for a replacement barrel for a pre 1944 Garand barrel you may have trouble finding one, the 47 barrel I have on the 43 Garand I have shoots great! I was at the gun show two months ago and North Ridge had about 15 barrel in a box for sale, all different dates of manufacture, before I purchased one from them I would want to gage it. I have not looked on Gun Broker for one, you may want to try the auction.

The barrels from Northridge should be avoided like the plague; they are salvaged de-milled barrels.
