does anyone know if FedX,Staples,Cabelas,walmart, or any other retail outlets that sale boxes the right size to ship rifles

I am selling a small modern rifle and an older musket. These require packaging for shipping with USPS. My local USPS does not have any suitable boxes. Any suggestions where to get them? I have tried the UPS store, Staples and Walmart.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Go to your local moving company and buy used/new wardrobe box. It will be big enough for you to "make a gun box". The wardrobes are double thickness. Don't forget to use only the brown USPS approved tape if you plan on sending it reg. mail!

Brownells sells boxes, too. These gun shipping boxes are none-too-cheap, that's for sure.

Were it me, I would go to an appliance store, who will give you for the taking, a big, heavy duty cardboard refrigerator or washing machine box.

You can cut it down to what you need. Just make sure you carefully protect the wood (a good covering of bubble wrap), fold a wide piece of cardboard over the muzzle, and wrap the gun steel in several thicknesses of newspaper.

Go to UPS and buy their 12x12x48 boxes. I cut them in half and glue tape them back together to make a very strong 6x12x48 box with double thick sides. The work great. Cost about 10 dollars.

I've recieved guns in black hard cases that can be picked up for around 15.00

Check out the dumpster behind your local golf store. They throw away excellent boxes that golf clubs came in. All sizes and they work perfect.

I ship with USPS Priority Mail. Order their "shoe boxes" and tape several of them together. Works great for me, and they are FREE.
