Remington 700 BDL 30-06 BDL?

What doe's the BDL stand for on a Remington 700 30-06 rifle mean and should it be stamped as such somewhere on the gun? I aquired one and it looks like several I've seen on auction listed as BDL, gloss blue finish on barrel, Hi gloss laquered finish on the wood stock, but it's not stamped as such anywhere on the receiver or barrel that I can find.
Thanks.

    ADL's don't have the floor plate to remove ammo from the magazine. Newer BDL's don't have iron sights although the one in the picture does. The wood stocked BDL's also have the black tip.

    To answer your original question, no, they don't stamp the recievers. That way, it(the reciever), can be used to make any model 700 they want to.

    it is a blind magazine (ADL) and lower grade wood VS a drop floorplate magazine and better wood/finish (BDL) Many gunsmiths prefer the ADL action for custom builds due to the receiver bottom not being milled out for the magazine, thus making it more ridgid.

    Thats the first I ever heard that the ADL and the BDL receiver bottoms were different.
    None of the ones I use where ever like that......
    You can convert a BDL to a ADl and the other way around too, so I doubt there is any difference between the 2 models as far as the bottoms being milled out, or not.....;

    aska gunsmith. The amount cut away is very little, but for some reason,.they prefer an ADL action. The difference will have to be explained by someone more knowledgable than myself,.that is what I have been told.

    I've been working with 700's for a long time, and pretty well know my way around them, and I'm the only gunsmith around to ask.
    They say a photo is worth a 1000 words, so here ya go.....
    The SS is my BDL, the Blue one is a ADL and there seems to be no measurable differences
    between the two.

    The only difference is the screw hole in the BDL to hold the mag well in place so when you open the floor plate that it does not drop out. Most serious target competitors use a 700 type action to build a Remingtom based rifle. That action is a solid base with no provisions for a magazine, and the type 700 action would be a 40X. The newer XR100 is a very solid shooter too.

    Look really close at the photo's and you'll see the screw hole that keeps the mag box from falling is used on both of them...!!!!
    The trigger guard has a ledge in it that prevents the mag well from falling out anyways..
    The XP-100, and the 40X single shot, and the XR-100 have solid bottoms..
