Highpoint C-9, a throw away gun?

At the recent Kansas City gun show, two friends of mine bought High Point C-9s. Under the delusion that I know how to field strip everything, they brought them to me. I followed the directions but could not find the slide release pin, only an empty hole where it is supposed to be. We took them back. Two separate vendors told us do not field strip them...ever. They said we were to shoot them, clean the barrel and chamber, and if they would not work, send them back and Highpoint simply gives you a new gun. This borders on being a "disposable gun" well, sort of. Does anyone have experience taking them apart or is this the straight scoop on these pistols. No, I didn't buy one, $150 bucks or not.

$150 isn't bad if it was for both guns, holsters, 20 boxes of factory ammo and a $100 gift certificate from Colt.

Anything that says Highpoint is disposable, or does not work in the first place.

Oh boy, well I guess you all wrapped that one up for me. $150 bucks each and one magazine. I wish they had asked me first and then I could have asked you all. I had a bad feeling about this gun. Now I am wondering if that Kel Tec P11 for $250 is a good gun or not. Thanks everyone, this was a big help.

I've owned a couple P-11's and both were envied by friends who convinced me that I should sell them the pistols. The P-11 is a GREAT gun. I'm sure it doesn't have a 30,000 lifespan but that's not it's intended purpose. It's lightweight, very compact and will go bang every time you pull the trigger. Mine digested every type of bullet I fed it.

What kind of cr_p are these guys talking about?

I field strip mine all the time. First removal of the pin is a bit_h, however, after that, no problem.

These are not by any means quality guns, the metals cheap and the slide wears quite fast, but not field stripable, bull hockey.

The gun is what it is, and a lot of people hate them, but it goes "bang" each time. An easy way without field stripping is to spray a liberal amount of Gun Scrubber everywhere.

    Best of luck
