I bought a 1868 snider carbine canadian 1868 I know they started converting the old actions to brass cartridges can you use paper cartridges with it or musket caps Clueless thanks Brian

    Here is a photo of the original heavy paper case,( constructed like shotgun shells), center fire ammo. The later made cartridges with conventional brass cases.

    If it has a breechblock that opens with the thumb lever, you have to use cartridges, not percussion caps. You'll notice that there is a firing pin in the part that LOOKS like a percussion Nipple. You can get cartridges OR brass from several dealers online. www.tenxammo.com is one source;www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=255311 is another.
    Lot of fun to shoot. Muzzle velocity is so low, you can hear the slug hit the target after the boom of the gun
