MY POCKET IS ON FIRE

I will soon have about $500. I am looking at a Dan Wesson 44 mag that might go for that. Or I might get a CZ-52 and have it jazzed with good sights, etc. I don't need a carry gun and I will onyl shoot it 2 or 3 times a year for a total of 200 rounds max. I don't want a gun that I have owned befor. No Taurus, Glock or 1911. I guess I want something that will get some attention from fellow shooters. What am I missing?

I would go for the Wesson, they shoot good and are good quality. The problem is the cost of ammo unless you reload. You get plenty of attention when you shoot some hot loads through the .44 magnum.

.41 mag. Great round that you don't see a lot. Will do about anything a .44 mag will do, and at longer ranges, better. You aren't going to shoot a lot, so increased ammo costs (if you don't reload) won't matter much. Smith 57 or Ruger.

Thanks for the help. I always avoided 44 mag because of cost. Then I realized that I would not shoot it that much. Same for the 41.
Can I also shoot 44 special in 44 mag? Will it save any ammo cost?

Well, With the CZ52 you can shoot a couple clips every day and not go broke. but my advice is to buy a bunch of ammo and extra clips now while they are cheap and easy to find if you get the 52. The CZ52 is LOUD with hot ammo.

The Cz82 is another good gun thats on the surplus market that can be found in good condition for less then $200. 9mm mak Ammo is cheap and there is lots of it right now. A great little gun.

I have a CZ-52 and lots of ammo. I am thinking about buying a second and making a best of two. One would be utility and one for dress up.

Carbine100, I like S&W but can't find a good 44 for near $500. Looks like $800 is the best I can find for S&W or Colt. Most are pushing $1000 or more.

You can shoot 44 special out of a 44 magnum gun. It will save on recoil, not sure about any cost savings.

I know it is not on your list but, for 'wow factor', you might consider a blackpowder revolver.

Ah I know the feeling. I had $500 burning a hole in my pocket a few days ago. Bought this--a Lipsey's exclusive Ruger Bisley Flattop in .44 Special. I really like this gun. I really love the .44 Special cartridge although it isn't always as easy to find--but thats not an issue if you reload or know how to buy online. Generally the price on .44 Specials is on par with .44 Mags--meaning they ain't cheap to plink with so thats why you reload.

distributors like Lew Horton & Lipseys and Davidsons sometimes have the gun manuf. make them special runs of guns that are not cataloged items--there are some cool editions if you have time to look for them.
