SKS Problem..not cycling

Took my Chicom SKS out to test fire it. The first 20 rounds went fine, then it stopped cycling. Would not eject the spent case and would not cycle. Had to operate it like a single shot rifle. Anyone have any ideas for a cure?

Likely something gone astray with the gas system. You DID say Norinco, so it should not have the gas valve problem that Yugos cn get. Start by checking the gas port to the barrel (pull gas cylinder, use a pipecleaner bent at right angle) Also check the exhaust ports on the gas cylinder, and that the gas piston is not seized on crud. Gas piston strikes the tappet- spring loaded, should move under heavy thumb pressure- needs a drop of lube now and again.

Sounds like you have a blockage in the gas system that actuates the bolt. Go to the Surplus Rifles web site for instructions on how to disassemble the SKS's gas system.

There's not much to it, easy to take apart. Make sure the hole in the barrel isn't plugged and the piston assembly located in the upper handguard moves freely.

sounds like the gas port is clogged. strip your rifle, clean and lube. basic sks maintenance. check this out for stripping. figure 14 is where the port is.
    hope this helps

Upon receipt, the gas/piston system of mine was packed with cosmoline. A fine single shot rifle until a very thorough cleaning.
