Any comments on this lever rifle. appears to fire 38 special but is not marked on gun. 357mag? Brass receiver, saddle ring, round barrel, rear sight has flip up for elevation ladder, looks like copy of win94. What style bullet shape will be best for functioning?

If it has a brass receiver, it's more likely a Model 1866 (see pic below). It should be stamped on the tang behind the hammer. You can fire either .38 Special or .357 ammo out of a .357-marked firearm. The Navy Arms/Uberti is very popular among Cowboy Action Shooting enthusiasts.

Thankyou, yes I see marked 38special on tang. I have no intention or desire to shoot 357mag. Nor do I shoot cowboy action. My 38 special pistol sees only wad cutters and I know they will not function, should I use round nose lead or jacketed? Will this rifle handle the +p jacketed bulk ammo I see on sale? what is the connection if any with uberti and navy arms? barrel marked navy arms nj italy?

OK, I thought you said it was a .357 magnum. If it's a .38 Special, you can NOT fire .357 rounds in it.

Navy Arms is an importer for Italian-made Uberti firearms.

The most economical bullets that likely will function in your rifle are lead round nose or semi-wadcutters. Semi-jacketed or full jacketed certainly will work, but will cost a bit.
