9mm Largo in 9x23 win

I understand from some internet research these cartridges have the same exterior dimensions. Is it therefore safe to fire 9mm largo ammo in a gun chambered for 9x23 win?

Should be yes. Just not the other way around.

I tried it with mine years ago. The problem seemed to be with the CCI Blazer, 9mm Largo loads. They were severally underpowered and the slide wouldn't cycle with them. It might have been my fault as I always used a Wolff extra power recoil spring, for my hot handloads. Never tried any of the original Spanish military 9mm Largo ammo, they might have functioned OK.

Perfect I thought that was the case. I am using a 1911 in 9x23 with factory springs so I think it should be fine. I would never try a 9x23 in a Largo. I like being able to see things. Thanks for the input.

    Rufe has it.

You likely can get away with firing the weaker largo rounds in the stronger 9x23 gun, though the converse isn't true.

More likely than not, the largo rounds won't cycle a 9x23 gun unless you swap out to a weaker recoil spring.
