44 Cal Shot Shells

I went through 16 pages of old posts on the 410 tonight and learned alot. Since the origin of the 410 was a 44 cal shot shell, do you thing loading up some 44 cal cases with the Speer shot capsules would work? Sort of retro. With the cost of 410 shells today it might make sense for a few rat or snake loads. Of course you could use a 44 cal handgun too but not everyone owns a 44 handgun. Is the Speer 44 shot capsules the right diameter to even work?

Before you go reinventing the wheel, see here about BRASS .410 shells:

Smooth bore it would be just as easy, a lot cheaper, and a hell-uv-a lot more effective to get some .410 wads and load the shot size of your preference. If you're talking a rifle barrel, handgun or long tube,
they aren't worth squat beyond spittin' distance.
    Just my 2 cents worth.

The problem I had that caused me to give up reloading .410s was that I couldn't get the crimps to hold on those (*(*&*&^% plastic shells.
I reloaded all the paper shells I had until the primer pockets wore out. I even used a piece of paper over the shot when the ends became too frayed.

    Thanks all.

I'll answer my own question whether a 44 Mag case will fit in in a 410 so if anyone bothers running a search they'll find this.

Yes and no. Yes, the 44 Mag is very close to the chamber diameter and can be inserted. However, the rim isn't large enough to engage the extractor/ejector and therefore wouldn't work. My guess is that to might go further into the chamber and the firing pin wouldn't even hit the primer.

Why not just get a box of brass 410 2" shells and reload those?
