Schmidt was a West German Co. that exported a lot of inexpensive, mediocre quality, revolvers to the States during the 60's and 70's.

Don't put a lot of money into it. Schmidt has been out of business for years. Their products never had a good reputation, and have been off the market for years. If you get stuck with it and it malfunctions, replacement parts might be hard to obtain.

I would suspect it is an ivory COLORED handle rather than real ivory, if it were real elephant or walrus ivory the grips would be vastly more valuable than the gun.

As stated by others, Schmidt was a German company that handled a lot of inexpensive, mediocre revolvers, most notable are the "Buffalo Scout" single action .22LR that inundated the market in the 60's.
