Wondering if this pistol cartridge piece of fine art is legal. If not, why?

If I'm reading your post correctly, you are talking about a handgun. Yes?
    If so, according to:
    http://justice.doj.ca.gov/safeguns/safeguns_new.taf
It is not legal to purchase from out-of-state.
From a CA resident to a CA resident? PPT.
If you have it and move here, establishing residency, and it is not an assult weapon..etc, it's O.K.
SORRY. DIDN'T DO MY HOMEWORK. SEE BELOW.

    P.S. ... ... ... ... $615

That is the rather strange looking semi sutomatic carbine. These rifles are banned from sale here in California. Why? Penal Code 12276.1, Catagory 3 of the states assault weapons regulations bans semi automatic rifles with detachable magazines and thumbhole butt stocks (among other things).

Try as I might, I just can't figure out why anyone would WANT one.

Well, yes, they are pretty, but what would you use it for?

    What do they cost?
Don't find any in the auction.

IT'S WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THEMSELVES THAT MAKES THEM AFRAID.

The CX4 Storm was made fot the Police, Military and for home defense. It is a light weight tactical weapon. Most knowledgeable gun owners would recognize. It uses common clips from beretta pistols and can be converted from a 9MM, to a 40MM to a 45MM. So you have three guns in one common form. Colt also made a 9MM AR, Styer made a similar 9MM, all for the same reasons. If you don't understand why anyone would want one, then your not to sharp.

If your dealer has one you should get it, because Beretta has shipped all they are going to for 2003. The next batch will be Feb. 2004 and most of those are sold. Beretta is haveing a hard time keeping up with demand and are behind over 5000 units. It will probably be the Fall of 2004 before you can get any conversion kits to another caliber. The MRP is $668.00, but I heard that was going up close to $800.00 in 2004 because of demand. I paid for my CX4 Storm in May 2003 and just got it last week. I was in on the first group. It is one of the finest, acturate weapons I've seen. I also have a HK SL8 and the CX4 is more acturate at 100 yards.
