I live in Peoples Republik of California. Can I buy a rifle in another state like PA. ? What do you experts know of purchases using this site? I was thinking of having stuff sent to my inlaws, but registered in my name.

    Um..

I assume your taking about the Barrett semi-auto .50BMG.

The only way you can get one into the state legally is to find a CA FFL who will accept what is normally a banned gun (SB 23 banned (by characteristic)) with the pistol grip removed. Most FFL's won't do a transfer like this.

You have to have it sent to a California FFL (with the pistol grip removed). Then the Cal FFL dealer charges you a transfer fee and DROS (Dealer record of sale) does the paperwork and holds it for 10 days then its yours. If you ever get caught with that pistol grip on it your looking at a Felony. Be careful.

Here is one for sale in the state:

You may be thinking: "Can't I just go to PA & buy the gun, and the CA authorities won't know about it when I drive home with it in my trunk?"

That won't work, because the PA dealer can only sell you a gun in compliance with the laws in your state of residence.

Saxon its not banned specifcally (Barrett 82a1) only by characteristic (Senate Bill 23). One of my buddies bought one at the end of '99 with a pistol grip and registered it as an AW (You can't do this anymore, last chance to do it was December 31, 1999). They are sold/ PPT'd in Cali with the pistol grip removed (the only reason its banned is cause of the pistol grip (the feature) you take it off and its legal) Same thing with DSG 58s etc.

Check out these Cal legal guns (10 round mag with a mag release modifcation to make it require a tool to take the mag out, becomes a fixed mag gun then, thus making the pistol grip ok)
