I have a chance to buy a Colt Model 32 Rimless Smokeless Automatic Colt for $269. The gun lacks any blueing that I can see but doesn't have any rust on it. According to the serial number (223XX) it was made in 1905.

Is this a Good Deal or what can you tell me about it.
Is it worth $269?

It's a close call. The Blue Book says that the serial number makes it a Type 1, and worth a 20% premium if in less than 98% condition. The book also says that one in 60% condition (as low as it goes) is worth a little more than $200, so $200+20% is about $240 and you might stretch that out to $250. $269 seems a wee bit high, but why quibble for $19 if you really want it? On the other hand, a specimen with more finish, while costing more initally, will probably appreciate more in the long run. Your call.

A couple of other considerations--the gun is a piece of firearms history. The .32 Colt Pistol was made up through WWII and was of excellent quality. If the firearm is in good mechanical shape (other than the lack of bluing) then you would be hard put to duplicate its quality at that price point.

If you look around at gunshows you can find the same pistol, in better condition, in the same price range. The Blue Book lists a $200 price for one in 60% condition, plus the additional 20% for being a type I. I wouldn't say that "no visible finish remaining" qualifies as 60% condition or for that price. My two cents worth-- keep your money and keep looking.
