An' it shoots really good! Put a Hogue rubber stock, V'qhartson trigger group, Clerke fat barrel an' a PDP2 on it; you'll have a 225 yd tackdriver like mine!

If you know it all; you must have been listening.WEAR EAR PROTECTION!

They also make them in 17HMR. Just in case your wondering. But can you make a 10/22LR in to a 17HMR or do you have to buy a new rifle? I know that they make a conversion for 22MAG to 17HMR.

    Thanks

The 10/22 mag has a receiver designed to withstand higher pressures than the receiver used on the 10/22 LR. Since the .17 HMR is essentially a necked down .22 mag, I'll bet .17 HMR pressures are close to those of a 22 mag. While it is probably possible to convert the 10/22 LR to .17 HMR, the receiver might fail. I think it would be dangerous to attemp this conversion.

Worry is the interest humans pay on the debt of miscalculation.

You are correct Robin, not only is the receiver not designed for the additional pressure generated by the magnum, the barrels will not interchange and there would also be magazine problems.

I did not know Ruger made a 10/22 MAG, but then I saw an ad for a DROP-in Design .17 cal barrel from Butler Creek for $149.00. Did not know if it was a typo or not....

Not a typo they do have the .17HMR bbl for the 10/22mag.
All a .17HMR is, is a necked down 22MAG case. As far as I know

gunnut505 put some money in his. but the one i had was bone stock and was a dissapointment, considering i traded a marlin bolt action and some boot. The marlin was the tube feed stainless with laminated stock
and would put all 13rds. inside a nickle at 100yds. Yes it was a dissapointment. But this goes back to apples and oranges.

Back again for unfinished bidness (thats AL slang for job). I also put a little money in mine. Aetec scope, clerke fat tube, clark custom laminated stock, and stoned the trigger myself. The trigger was my second one to do and was SWEEEET. Still couldn't hit the bull in the a** more than once.

I just bought a 10-22 Mag a few days ago. I did replace the trigger with a "V-whatzit" but other than that I haven't made any changes. I put a Leupold Vari X II on it, so far have had nickle size groups at 50 yards. Haven't sighted it in to anything longer yet. I'm planning to use it for squirrels and varmits, I think it's almost ready, and I believe it will do fine. I might be interested in a .17 cal barrel for it though, hadn't heard they were available until now. I suppose the barrel would require a stock change as well? Not crazy over that, but would consider it. How about mags? Do you have to use it as a single shot, or are .17 cal mags available for it as well?
